Leadville Trail Marathon and Heavy Half Marathon Clearing The Way to Win

On Saturday, June 17, the Blueprint for Athletes Leadville Trail Marathon and Heavy Half Marathon sponsored by Blueprint for Athletes will kick off the famed ultra endurance event season in Leadville, Colorado. Due to the substantial late spring snowfall in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, the Leadville Race Series crew has been prepping the course and working to clear snow drifts up to seven feet high in some areas of the trail.

“With the May storms this year, we’ve received a considerable amount of late season snow in Leadville. Our team has been working hard shoveling and clearing the snow away for our participants to give them the great race experience Leadville is known for,” said Ken Chlouber, Founder of the Leadville Race Series.

The Blueprint for Athletes Leadville Trail Marathon and 15.5-mile Heavy Half Marathon kick off the Colorado portion of the Leadville Race Series. The Leadville Trail Marathon is a qualifier for the Leadville Trail 100 and the courses also offer a perfect introduction for those looking to attempt other ultra-endurance events like the Silver Rush 50. The Leadville Trail Marathon is the first event in the famed Leadman/Leadwoman competition, where athletes participate in five Leadville Race Series events throughout the summer.

The Leadville Trail Marathon and Heavy Half courses run through the historic mining district of Leadville and climb up to 13,185 feet at the top of Mosquito Pass. The challenging, three-mile pass ascent includes rocky terrain and switchbacks, and athletes are rewarded with breathtaking views of Turquoise Lake and the Mosquito and Sawatch mountain ranges, including Mount Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado.

For those interested in participating in either race, space is still available and online registration closes on Thursday, June 15 at 5 p.m. MT. In-person registration will be offered Friday, June 16from 11 a.m. –7 p.m. MT and race morning, Saturday, June 17 from 6– 7 a.m. MT in Leadville.

Both races begin on Saturday, June 17 at 8 a.m. in downtown Leadville.
