Weather or Not We Will See Snow…
I cannot help but get my hopes up. It appears everyone is on edge as the brown ground is all too visible at this stage of the season. Thank god for for the time and energy our ski areas Snow-makers have put on the hill! So here is what Danny has to say about the upcoming week for weather:
New month = new forecast …maybe. More of the same (MOTS) may be changing to winter on the horizon (WONH)! SO whats up? The normally artic cold air intrusion that occurs around now that shapes how storms are effecting us is still bottled up. Signs are that this cold maybe sinking southward a week from now changing the position of the jet stream (weather corridor Temps are -47 at Dawson Canada and -31 in Fairbanks. This dense cold air will eventually head our way and the storm track should change to help us. In the mean time a favorable little chunk of the major west coast storm will cruse over us late Sunday. Colorado’s northern MTN Towns could see 3-6″ by late Monday so that would help. Next chance Thursday but again light. So hopefully a week from now storms might be shunted towards us and let the fun begin !
If everything goes right we’ll see atmospheric conditions become aligned for snowflake formation. If we all hold our collective breathe we may see more than one and actually enough to measure! It has been almost a month since we have seen a flake so we may need an example to remember. So the good news is weather conditions are slowly changing late in the week and winter could be on the horizon next week. So for now we may see 2-4″ of snow on the high peaks by noon Monday and another chance Thursday. Next weekend could be a transition that brings more stormy weather so stay tuned……!
