Breck’s Imperial Challenge, Breckenridge Ski Resort
The Imperial Challenge is a unique, wild, and fun pseudo-triathlon, test of athleticism, rite of spring, and all around community party where local folks and uphill enthusiasts alike gather in Breck to race to the top of Peak 8 at 13,000 feet above-sea-level!
Participants start in town at 9,600 feet above sea-level and race to the base of Peak 7 at Breckenridge Ski Resort on foot or on bicycle, then transition over to uphill skis or splitboards and skins to make their way uphill to the top of Peak 8 before racing back down again. This route is no easy feat with nearly 4,000 feet of elevation gain and approximately 10 miles of human-powered travel.
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Spandex, tutus and costumes are always encouraged!

Cody’s Challenge, Steamboat Ski Resort
Cody’s Challenge is Steamboat Springs first and only randonee (skimo) race! Every year, there are more races added to the calendar throughout Colorado, but we challenge you to find one with more heart. This is more than your typical big ascent, heart pumping race.
Born from a French tradition to honor Ski Patrollers who passed away, race coordinator Kyle Lawton, has done just that with the help of his fellow Steamboat Ski Patrollers. When asked about his inspiration for Cody’s Challenge, Lawton said “it is truly remarkable how many people Cody touched with his kindness, enthusiasm for life, spiritualism, and his his respect for the environment. We hope this race has the same impact and touches as many people as Cody did during his life.”
Cody’s Challenge is for everyone, from the professional racer to the first timer. We encourage everyone and anyone to participate in what we think is the coolest race-for-a-cause in Colorado! A portion of the proceeds go directly to The Cody St. john Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to Professional Ski Patrollers for continuing medical education.
The Cody St. John Foundation continues to succeed in our mission of awarding scholarships to qualified professional ski patrollers to further their medical education. Each year we are committed to awarding five scholarships for medical education. The Scholarship Recipients are publicly announced at our post-race lunch and Awards Ceremony.

The Cardboard Classic, Steamboat’s traditional rite of spring returns to the Steamboat Ski Area for the 43nd year. Springtime is all about good times and the high alpine at Breck, and we’re bringing it all together with our new spring bash, Peaks & Beats. Double down on all your favorite spring staples – high alpine laps, live music and DJs, and the annual tradition of pond skimming, with a new two-day format for two times the big Breck energy. That’s right! Two days of free concerts AND two days of pond skimming.

After our first day of pond skimming on Saturday, Dombresky will take the stage for a free live DJ set followed by Cassian throwing it down after the second pond skim sesh on Sunday. Costumes are not required but are strongly encouraged, so get out your favorite onesie, your brightest neon, or your most water-resistant denim and join us for all the fun this spring.
