Are you Social or Not? The Social Media Train
The Social Media train is well down the track, especially in the Rocky Mountains! Thanks to events like the US Pro Cycling Challenge bringing world wide attention to Colorado, the world really got to share in this inaugural event all thanks to our social networks – Facebook and Twitter.
Shhhh – did you hear the whistle of the train? If you are on Facebook and Twitter, most likely you did and you even shared in the enthusiasm along the ride. And that is exactly what social media is all about.
Facebook and Twitter are social platforms and social media is the grease on the wheels. Social platforms are places to listen to conversations. These are platforms to talk, as well as connect with other enthusiast cycling fans. At the heart of all this is personality and engagement – the true you screaming and shouting in typed silence to other likeminded folks as the riders take their turns through each stage of the race.
Twitter was the perfect partner to Facebook during the week long event that took spectators to new heights along the tallest roadways in Colorado. Twitter allowed for instant gratification while Facebook allowed for large scale images and network stories to be streamed live for those who sat in office cubicles.
In the end social media did it’s job. Thousands of fans “liked” their favorite Facebook Pages, and Twitter’s instant messaging roared through the crowds along with the 120+ professional riders. If social media can do this for the US Pro Cycling Challenge, just think what it can do for your business. Shhhhh – can you hear it? Think about it.
