Arapahoe Basin – We love the Beach!

These are the days of the beach, Arapahoe Basin‘s Beach. Warm bluebird days, soft corn, mashed potatoes and a bit of slush for all of your ski and snowboards nutrition needs. Grab your lawn chairs, a BBQ and your sound system. Sprinkle with some friends and you are prepped for one of the best parties on earth. Themes always vary and anything goes: Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, bunnies, retro, 60’s tie dye run the gammet. I have seen gorrilas, bananas, spongebob, pole dancers and more rocking the scene like this dude is.

So here is the skinny. You can do the beach two different ways. Prepare to rise early. The early riser parking lot opens it’s gates at as early as 6:30 – 7am but it can vary.  From there its a slow-mo race to secure your favorite point on this strip at the foot of the mountain.

Once you have arrived you can settle in. Many of us have campers so we will drag out the chairs, bbq’s, tables and tiki torches and then boil up some tea and coffee.  Often a bloody-mary bar is arranged for those interested in getting started early (Just remember drunk skiing and riding is not okay, designated drivers are also a necessity so name that person before you even get there).

You can also spoil yourself by reserving a beach spot. These space book up quickly. There are 10 spots total. Each spot has enough room to park two vehicles and comes with a picnic table. You provide the grill and decor. Reservations are avaliable for $100 per spot in the eraly season. From February 17, 2012 through March 31, 2012 rates vary by day: Monday through Thursday $125 per spot, Fridays $150 per spot, Saturday and Sunday $175 per spot. In April everyday is $175 per spot. So hurry it up and reserve – Book Online!

I would consider the annual beachin’ party a family and friend pasttime. I love the early start when all is quiet. As the day grows so does the noise but it’s happy. From this gathering of tribes laughter, music, great conversations and funny antics are heard and observed. The scent of grilled everything wafts through the air- life is good! Once the lifts close the party continues with kids big and small sledding and performing daring tricks. If you have never been I highly recommend it and for all of you warriors spring has appeared a little earlier then usual, all the bigger reason to get to the Basin for a Beach Day!

Yeah ladies!!!!!….
