2024 GoPro Mountain Games

GoPro Mountain Games is a four-day extravaganza of outdoor sports, music, art, and lifestyle

Head to Vail June 6-9, the Vail Valley Valley Foundation, host of the GoPro Mountain Games, is stoked to welcome athletes, spectators, music and art lovers, and of course, four-legged friends to Vail, Colorado this weekend. 

The GoPro Mountain Games is an internationally recognized all-around mountain sports and culture event available anywhere in the world. This year’s Mountain Games features more than 4,000 athlete registrations (so far) across 11 different disciplines and more than 30 athletic competitions, and over $140 in prize money will be distributed.

The Games will have more than 75 dogs competing and dozens up for adoption. Professional and amateur athletes, never-evers, kids, families, and more, are invited to participate. The event also features a variety of art, over 100 sponsor activations, a food truck town, and the Mountains of Music concert series. 

Mikaela Shiffrin joins the who’s who of mountain athletes at GoPro Mountain Games CoLab stage on Saturday

The world’s best ski racer, Mikaela Shiffrin, grew up near the slopes of Vail and Beaver Creek, and still calls nearby Edwards, Colorado, home. The most decorated alpine ski racer of all time, Shiffrin will join the action at the GoPro Mountain Games CoLab stage Saturday afternoon for a One-on-one interview to discuss the recent news that women’s speed event ski racing has been officially added to the calendar for this December Stifel Birds of Prey Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Beaver Creek Dec. 6-15, 2024. It will be the first time ever that women’s alpine racers will have a chance to compete on the iconic and world-renowned Birds of Prey course. The GoPro Mountain Games and the Stifel Birds of Prey are both empowered by the nonprofit Vail Valley Foundation.

After her 1:1 interview with Mountain Games hosts, Shiffrin will participate in the “Mountain Games Show” along with other notable athletes and influencers. (Note that Shiffrin will not be available for media interviews, autographs, or fan interactions.) 

Here is what’s new for all of you in 2024:

The GoPro Mountain Games brings together some of the world’s most renowned professional athletes, average joes, influencers, brand partners, artists, musicians, and outdoor enthusiasts in one place to create an epicenter of the mountain lifestyle.

GoPro Mountain Games is excited to announce that it will join forces with CKS Paddle Fest and FIBArk to present the 2024 Kayak Freestyle Colorado Cup. This three-event series will culminate in an overall champion for the Colorado Tour freestyle Kayak events. The 2024 Kayak Freestyle Colorado Cup events are:

  • CKS Paddlefest – May 23-27, Buena Vista
  • GoPro Mountain Games – June 6-9, Vail
  • FIBArk – June 14-16, Salida 

The Optimum Nutrition kayak freestyle event, a mainstay of the Mountain Games, will be the second stop in the Colorado Cup tour. This event features the world’s best playboaters in an old-fashioned throw-down at Vail Whitewater Park June 6-8 during the mountain games, with the finals at 4 p.m. on June 8. The current world champion, Mao Takebe, former world champions, and an awesome list of international athletes will compete this year in the CELSIUS Trickline Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. We also have a few outstanding kids competing. This is a spectator fan favorite and overall crowd-pleaser. Up for grabs is over $5,000 in a prize purse.

The 2024 GoPro Mountain Games will once again feature incredible live concerts throughout the event as part of the Mountains of Music concert series. Free day time music sets will liven the vibe in Mountain House Gear Town (Vail Village) and The Hangout (Golden Peak) daily from Thursday through Sunday.  Ticketed headliner concerts at the Amp will be the place to be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Australian singer and songwriter Xavier Rudd and opener Mike Love will kick things off on June 6, June 7 features high-energy music festival favorites and co-headliners Lotus and Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country. On June 8, Leftover Salmon’s Andy Thorn & Friends will open for one of the most successful bands in the roots rock scene – Dispatch. This will be the only Colorado show for Dispatch in 2024.
