36th Annual Breck Film Fest – September 15 -18, 2016

Get ready, the 36th annual Breck Film Fest returns to screens throughout the Breckenridge Arts District of culturally vibrant Breckenridge, Colorado September 15-18, 2016. Showcasing over 60 films, this year’s lineup includes 25 Colorado premieres among a number of other US and international premieres. Film blocks feature multi-genre shorts, heart-felt and educational documentaries, emotional dramas, student films, and plenty of stuff to make you laugh. Returning are the ever popular Adventure Reel along with filmmaker forums and parties throughout the weekend. Here are a few notable highlights:

OPENING NIGHT FILM – Thursday Sept. 15, 7pm: The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring

Years is based on the first part of The Beatles’ career (1962-1966) – the period in which they toured and captured the world’s acclaim. Ron Howard’s film will explore how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr came together to become this extraordinary phenomenon, The Beatles. This screening is one of the first in the US and is highly anticipated. In advance of the featured event, Breck Film Fest will show a screening of the animated film Borrowed Time, a passion project of Pixar animators. Get ready for Sunday’s Evening With Pixar with the makers of this award-winning short film.

WOMEN IN FILM – playing throughout the festival: Breck Film Fest is proud to present a number of works highlighting the presence of women in film. Strong Sisters: Elected Women in Colorado, showcases the monumental number of women elected to office in the state of Colorado and addresses how we can continue to inspire young women to get involved and make a difference in their local politics. Equal Footing follows two adventurous female rock climbers looking to redefine the preconception of feminine along sheer granite cliffs. CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap explores why women and minorities aren’t better represented in the realm of computer science and why it is so necessary.

ADVENTURE REEL – Friday Sept. 16, 7pm: Fuel you stoke for adventure with films featuring women with speed, a tribute to the Pacific Northwest, and skijoring with man’s best friend. Featured films include Muir Song, Dog Power, and Klocked: Women with Horsepower with directors from each in attendance. Other films, such as Chasing Niagara, Godspeed, Strief, and The Weekend Sailor cater to the paddler, cyclist, skier and sailor in all of us.

POPCORN & PROSECCO – Saturday Sept. 17, 11:30am: Sharing the same weekend, Breck Film Fest is excited to partner with the Breckenridge Wine classic to bring a special screening of SOMM: Into the Bottle, at the Breckenridge Theatre. This will be a fun and interactive experience to share with fellow wine lovers while popping some bubbly and filling your bucket with gourmet popcorn from Ember restaurant. Through the film, examine the history of wine and the distinctions that classify their aging process, types, prices, and the people who teach us the difference.

EVENING WITH PIXAR – Sunday Sept. 18 – 6pm: Pixar will be taking over Sunday night’s programming with the first ever opportunity to see their theatrical shorts all at once. Breck Film Fest will be hosting a number of representatives from Pixar and will be facilitating commentary after the screening about the evolution of animation technology. Viewers will be able to watch the technology progress on screen during the shorts.

FORUMS AND WORKSHOPS – held throughout the festival: This year Breck Film Fest welcomes the following forums and workshops with noteworthy presenters.

• Daily, 12-5p – “Tools of the Trade” Exhibit presented by HP Workstation and Intel Xeon

• Friday Sept. 16 – “Storytelling for a Change” with anchor filmmaker Eric Marshall

• Friday Sept. 16 – “Oscar-worthy Editing” with three-time Academy Award nominee Bill Steinkamp

• Saturday Sept. 17 – “TV vs. Film: A Paradigm Shift” with CU Denver Senior Faculty

• Saturday Sept. 17 – TEEN WORKSHOP – “Low Budget/High Value: Making Films For Free” • Sunday Sept. 18 – “Developing Scripts”
