Snow Piles Up at Colorado CSUSA Resorts

Snow! It is so thrilling to see our Colorado mountain towns transformed in a matter of days. A third strong winter storm in the past 12 days moved through Colorado’s high country over the last 72 hours, leaving up to 28 inches in many areas.

The storm left substantial accumulation across Colorado’s ski resorts, with resorts in the southwestern part of the state hit especially hard. Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) reported on their member resorts with Wolf Creek receiving the prize 28 inches of snow. Telluride, which opens for the season this Friday, and Silverton, which opens December 29, each received 21 inches. Purgatory recorded 15 inches in the last 72 hours.

 Crested Butte

In the central part of the state, Powderhorn welcomed 24 inches and will have an early opening this weekend and next weekend before opening for the season December 15. Sunlight received 20 inches, Snowmass was blanketed in 16 inches of natural snow and Crested Butte and Aspen received 13.5 inches and 9 inches respectively. Further north, skiers and riders at Steamboat enjoyed 15 inches in the last three days while those at Howelsen Hill’s opening day enjoyed 6 inches today.

Closer to Denver, Front Range skiers and snowboarders savored 15 inches of fresh snow at Winter Park, 10 inches at Loveland, 8 inches at Copper and 7 inches at Arapahoe Basin while Granby Ranch recorded 6 inches and Eldora received 5 inches of fresh powder.
