Early Season in Telluride

Minimal, open terrain during the first few weeks at any ski resort should be anything but foreign to the die-hard skier, unless you were lucky enough to live in Jackson Hole last winter (100% open on opening day – those lucky bastards). And if you live in Telluride, it’s hard to expect a lot.

From our full year of experience, opening day last season was a carbon copy of this year’s – two runs and a couple of jumps. Fortunately, a foot of snow last week granted us access to lift 5 and lift 6, letting us cruise the well-known See Forever Loop (one of the few things to look forward to during the first days of the season.)

Yet, even with just a small percentage of terrain available, early season skiing in Telluride kicks ass. There always seems to be a new woop-di-doo to hit, a recently groomed pitch to tuck, and, of course, plenty of beer available at Gorrono’s. So, regardless of the fact that we are salivating at the mouth, dying for what’s to come, we’ve got enough variety to keep us entertained for the time being.
