Arapahoe Basin: Yoga on the Mountain – A Successful Summer Event

There have been times that Arapahoe Basin felt like a four season resort with skiing and riding available close to every month of the year, but this season was a bit different… lack of snow and warm temps shut skiing and riding down early. That closure however did not turn off the lights or the fun! Chili Festival and Festival of the Brew Pubs ran right on schedule, both continuing to draw the crowds. Then came the announcement, for it’s first year ever, A-Basin was adding summer events.

This past week Arapahoe Basin held its Yoga on the Mountain event and it was a blast! Sold out three days prior to the event, 50 people (49 women and 1 man) attended. The session was led by local instructor Allison Simson, who brought a fellow instructor to ensure that everyone’s individual needs were met. Participants hiked 1.8mi to the Black Mountain Lodge at mid-mountain via their Argentine-North Fork Trail, a single-track hike and bike trail that was built earlier this summer. The yoga session took place outside on the deck at the Black Mountain Lodge (the weather was perfect!), and was followed by a light spa luncheon.

The menu, developed by Executive Chef Christopher Rybak, included cold watermelon and crab soup, cucumber and quinoa salads, miso glazed grilled salmon and strawberry tartlets. Adrienne Saia Isaac,  Arapahoe Basin’s Marketing and Communications Manager commented “We couldn’t have imagined a better turnout, and we are really excited about holding more events like this in the future. Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves, and hopefully next summer we can make this a monthly or bi-monthly event”. From the looks of it I think that they should definitely keep this one on their agenda and you should too! What a beautiful setting.

Two more events are on the schedule for Arapahoe Basin’s summer events:

August 26 – brunch at black mountain lodge

 September 8 – Clam Bake

I do not want to miss these! A-Basin year round, I love it!
