Fruita Fat Tire Festival, Fruita
The Fruita Fat Tire Festival is one of the nations longest running, non-race Mountain Bike events; focused on celebrating bikes, gear and trails. The bentonite and clay soils of the Grand Valley offer some of the best, most diverse and, at times, technically challenging terrain in the United States. The North Fruita Desert 18 Rd Trail System is the perfect blend of all these with mtb trails for every skill level. The Fruita Fat Tire Festival is a demonstration event with the goal of bringing Mountain Bike and Gear manufacturers together with avid riders interested in testing out the industries latest offerings. 3 days of riding on trails that offer fast but fulfilling loops give riders a real chance to put bikes through their paces while also allowing time for sampling multiple brands and models. You’ll run out of energy long before you run out of new bikes and fun trails. When you’re not riding the Downtown Fruita Venue of the Festival offers more gear, apparel and outdoor recreation related vendors as well as music and outstanding beers from western Colorado’s own Ska Brewing. Additionally, this year’s festival is collaborating with CO2UT Desert Gravel to host additional Gravel Riders over the weekend and will be working to bring Gravel related manufacturers and vendors to the festival as well.

Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials, Hotchkiss
The Annual Hotchkiss Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials are held Mother’s Day weekend, on the picturesque Richard Hotchkiss family ranch, immediately south of downtown Hotchkiss … just a few hundred feet south of the post office.
The dog trials are not only Hotchkiss’ biggest annual event, but are popular with dog/handler teams from across America.
The Trials begin early each day, with the trials grounds offering some bleachers, which fill quickly — you may wish to bring your own chair.
Spring weather is unpredictable and it is not unknown for the audience to experience wind, rain or cold, although most years the weather is warm and sunny, so a hat and sun block are good ideas.
Stock dog trials are a sport consisting of highly trained dogs (mostly border collies) paired with a human handler who, solely by voice, whistle and hand signals, guides the dog in herding a small band of sheep through a series of gates and finally into a pen.

Slush N’ Spokes, Arapahoe Basin
Imagine staring down High Noon (a blue ski run) with 59 of your newest friends, about to Le-Mans start a bicycle race. You pick up your ride, throw a leg over, and you’re off – elbow to elbow in the slush trying to make the first sweeping right hander. You hesitantly let off the brakes and start to gain speed. You’re cruising, feeling good, but still need to make up more time so you let off even more. You’re now maxed out, having the time of your life, fully pinned to the bottom. You see a natural feature and think to yourself – boost the roller and smile for the camera. This is Slush N’ Spokes – the long-awaited return of bikes on snow at A-Basin.
