Telluride Meets Hollywood! Telluride Film Festival
The rumor train has been running for quite some time now, with locals and visitors alike commenting on which celebrities, directors and Hollywood big shots would be heading to Telluride over labor day weekend. And even though sightings have been confirmed for George Clooney, Glenn Close, Jennifer Garner and Tilda Swinton, the 38th annual Telluride Film Festival is more than just a Hollywood takeover of a small mountain town. Sure, “Show” banners, skinny, vanilla lattes and mobs of people sporting their red and green festival lanyards have invaded the box canyon, but what truly separates this film fest from others is its setting. The scenic beauty of Telluride, juxtaposed by the celebration of the cinema arts, gives attendees a lot more than they had expected.
Going to Telluride, in itself, is a trip worth taking; the films play a close second, which seems to be the reason why the festival doesn’t release its official schedule until the first day. So, even though town is packed with the star struck, the film buffs and the key Hollywood players, the Telluride Film Festival is more of a last hoorah, a sayonara to the summer season than an opportunity to see 10 movies over three days. Sure, Blues and Brews officially concludes the high season, but looking back on it already, it has been one hell of a summer.
