Sopp and Truscott Bakery, Silver Plume
I am not sure what it is that lures me to Silver Plume in the Fall. The cool air and golden leaves, the classic old homes on dirt roads? I love taking a few moments from my day when I am driving to Denver to tour the historic old town winter, spring, summer and fall. It’s always an extra treat to stop into the Sopp and Truscott Bakery.
For the 23 years that I have lived in Colorado’s mountains I have always made sure to stop in for a loaf of bread, a cookie and some coffee. Who needs Starbucks! This charming little bakery is a throwback to yester-years that I certainly hope never comes to an end.
Owners Shane Meredith and Terri Stilfield craft artisinal breads from recipes handed down throughout the 40 or so years that the shop has been in existence and sells them only from his storefront. These breads are moist, dense with flavor and out right delicious. Johnny Bread, Jalapeno Cheddar, Cottage Cheese Dill, Cranberry Almond, Rosemary & Garlic are some of the many varieties you can find in the display case. You can take a loaf home whole or freshly sliced by their antique bread slicer.
You can also find cookies, bars and other delights to compliment a cup of fresh brewed coffee. Stop in, be transported in time and enjoy the taste and aroma this little bakery creates just for you!
