SOPA ~ Protect IP Act….Internet Site Blackouts

This is an important subject. The Summit Sojourns site does a tremendous amount of blog sharing with others and could be viewed by the government as a pirate, even though I obtain full permission from the creators prior to posting an article. Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) are in the House and the Senate will begin voting on January 24th. If you oppose these measures then you can sign the petition by clicking here. It is recommended that you contact your state representatives and let them know too!

Originally I was going to create a post with nothing in it it to support the blackout. However, I feel education is important. Maybe you feel that the bills being proposed are accurate and justified. If that is so, so be it. We are not here to tell you what to think. We are posting this so if you do not know about these measures that you would become a little more informed. Again, read the links in the first paragraph. In the meantime Mashable did a great job putting together some information so I “stole it”… all credits go to Stan Schroeder and the Mashable.com team.

These sites have “blacked out” today in protest of Stop online privacy act (SOPA). It makes it just a little bit easier to imagine what the web could look like if some of the measures from the proposed SOPA bill were to become law.

Today, many popular websites are going “dark” in protest of Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

The consensus among many experts, Internet users, web companies and even the White House, is that SOPA is too restrictive, too dangerous, too complicated and too big of a threat to our privacy.

In a way, today’s blackout shows what the Internet might look like if some of the principles in SOPA start being enforced as law. Do you like seeing big “CLOSED” signs on your favorite websites? Neither do we.
