Smell That Bread Bakery
Smell that bread, and croissants, and bagels, and cinnamon rolls, and cookies, and pies, and all those other sweet treats that Smell That Bread Bakery in Steamboat Springs provides on a daily basis.
Tucked away in the cutest little storefront on 11th Street in downtown Steamboat Springs is a wonderful group of bakers producing incredible rustic bread and classic pastries that you won’t want to miss when you’re in the area.
Julie and Sam Gordon started as a wholesale bread business supplying area restaurants but their baked goods enticing fragrances began drawing a crowd. In May of 2017, the Gordon’s opened a retail space that quickly gained popularity amongst the locals and it has become one of my favorite spots to visit when visiting the Steamboat Resort and the vibrant town of Steamboat.
Their croissants are gloriously flaky on the outside, soft, chewy, and melt in the mouth on the inside. Huge sweet cinnamon rolls are a favorite along with holy wow… Kouign-Amann’s, an irresistible round crusty cake that pairs perfectly with their brewed coffee. Thick crusty rustic bread, baguettes, challahs, and rolls are available to take out for later too.
This duo knows bread and the intricate science required to bake at altitude. A background that includes traditional French Pastry and Bread Baking instruction at the San Francisco Baking Institute has resulted in a deliciously satisfying morning breakfast and is a compliment to an evening meal with their bakery’s takeaway.
If I were deserted on a desert island and the only food I could choose to eat was bread and butter, then I would be sure it was Smell That Bread bakeries bread. Be sure to visit:
