CKS Paddle Fest Buena Vista – May 24 -27
The CKS Paddle Fest is back take a class, participate in a demo and celebrate the beginning of the paddling season over this Memorial Day Weekend! This is a family affair and a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Chaffee County that you will not want to miss. Demo a boat or board. Take a lesson. Check out live music and movies. Camp and have fun as Buena Vista opens it’s doors to you, your friends and family!

Friday May 24th, 2013
12PM – 7PM–CKS Storewide Sale – 327. East Main St. Retail Store Location
2PM – 7PM–B.V. Pro Kayak Comp. Qualifying Rounds- Buena Vista River Park in South Main. Come watch the the world’s best freestyle kayakers compete in the state’s most dynamic river feature for a chance at the finals on Saturday evening.
6PM– BV Raft Race –Buena Vista River Park– The fun and casual raft race circuit makes a stop at PaddleFest 2013 where raft racers give it their all in a sprint style race through the River Park ending at South Main.
4PM – 8PM Paddles and Pints Happy Hour– Bring the entire family to the South Main River Park for an evening of libations, live music, food, arts, crafts and games. All while watching the best athletes in the world compere in the BV Pro. This is the major fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs at Paddle Fest
8PM – 9PM– River Flicks Movie Premier at the State Highway Building.
9PM – 12PM– Live Music at the State Highway Building. Bring out your dancing shoes and have some after hours fun on E. Main St.

9am-7pm– CKS Storewide Sale at E. Main St Retail Location. The nation’s best brands combined with the industry’s top representatives to answer all of your questions. This is the one time of year customers can work directly with manufacturers while picking out their gear, boats and boards.
9am-5pm– Used Gear Swap at CKS Got used paddling stuff to sell? Want to buy some used gear and boats? This is Colorado’s largest used paddling Swap open to the public. CKS on E Main St.
9am-5pm– On Water Educational Courses and Pool Sessions with RMOC. Learn all facets of paddling from the best instructors in the world at PaddleFest. From first time paddling classes to advanced techniques, PaddleFest offers it all to you.
10am – SUP Yoga For Paddlers – Yoga keeps your core in shape and your body in balance. So does Paddling! Come learn how to apply fun and basic Yoga techniques on dry land and then yoga up on a SUP board. You will love how you feel after this course. Even if you did get a little wet.
10 am – SUP Fishing with Boardworks Badfish and Jackson Kayak Join SUP fishermen Mike Harvey of Badfish SUP and Ken Hoeve of Jackson
Kayak to learn the basics of SUP based fishing. Learn how to rig your board for fishing and try some casting from demo fishing boards on the Town Pond.
11:00 AM – 3:00 PM – SUP Maneuvers With Dan Gavere – meets at RMOC booth next to CKS. Join Dan Gavere, the nation’s leader in whitewater SUP for a fun filled day on the Arkansas River. You will learn the basics that will allow you to progress from flat water to the whitewater environment. This class is very well received and has given many SUP paddlers the confidence they need to excel in the SUP river world. It is so much fun and you will learn a lot.
12 pm-2pm–River Surf Expo presented by BoardWorks -and BadFish SUP at the Buena Vista River Park ( Staircase Wave-just up from South Main.) Meet at the Badfish Demo Center at the South Main River Park and come learn more about River SUP and demo the new 2013 river specific SUP surf boards. This is for people with previous river SUP experience. Must have your own paddling gear. Demo boards will be provided.
11am-3pm–Whitewater Kayaking Demo Center-Buena Vista River Park in South Main Come test the new 2013 whitewater kayaks and learn about boat design from the world’s best manufacturers at the Buena Vista River Park.
11am-4pm– SUP and Flatwater Kayaking Demo Center– presented by BoardWorks and BadFish SUPAt the Buena Vista Town Pond at McPhelemy Park. Come learn some basic skills and try out the best in Flat-Water Kayaking, Kayak Fishing, SUP, and Inflatable technologies.
12-2:30 pm– SUP Fitness with Nikki Gregg- This 2.5 hour clinic / class is a combination of dry land and on-water instruction with the objective of developing and refining your forward stroke technique, enhancing board steering and maneuvering skills, and learning some valuable fitness and racing tips.
12 pm-7pm– BV Pro Kayaking Comp– Buena Vista River Park in South Main. Watch the best in the world battle it out for the BV Pro Kayaking Title. A must see event full of excitement and thrills. Fun activities, foods, arts and spirits will accompany the event.
4pm-8pm Paddles and Pints Happy Hour– Bring the entire family to the South Main River Park for an evening of libations, live music, food, arts, crafts and games. 6pm– SUP-Hill-Downhill– Meet at the South Main River Park at 5 pm with your boards and all your gear. A fun uphill, but short , foot race to your SUP board (which will be stashed up stream) and a Chinese downhill SUP River Race to the finish line in South Main. Cash and prizes for the winners.
8 pm– River Flicks Movie Premier at the State Highway Building.
9 pm– TEVA Block Party and listen to Live Music at the State Highway Theater

11am-4pm– BV Amateur-Open Kayak –Buena Vista River Park in South Main. These up and coming paddlers are giving it their all for recognition and to prove why the pros need to watch their backs. Open to all ages ( AM-ateur ) competition welcome kayakers of all abilities to compete for fun prizes.
11am-3pm– Whitewater Kayaking Demo Center at the Buena Vista River Park in South Main. Come test the new 2011 whitewater kayaks and learn about boat design from the best manufacturers at the Buena Vista River Park.
11am-3pm– SUP and Flatwater Kayaking Demo Center-presented by BoardWorks and BadFish SUP At the BoardWorks Pond at McPhelemy Park. Come learn some basic skills and try out the best in Flat-Water Kayaking, Kayak Fishing, SUP, and Inflatable technologies.
12 noon – Rule the Roost – PaddleFest’s first multi sport race ( short course ) brought to you byBoneshakers Cycles. The course will consist of a run through the BV River park, followed up by a mountain biking lap on the infamous Broken Boyfriend Trail and finishes off on a paddle through the BV River Park. This event can be done as an individual or as a team. Not for the light at heart The course will demand and require specialized skills in all 3 facets of the race.

3pm–Buoy Bonanza– Fun kayak and SUP race around buoys at the BoardWorks SUP Pond in McPhelemy Park. Bring your talent and your friends to compete for prizes. A family friendly and all ages all abilities event.

11am-2pm– Race to the Grill. The first annual River Runner’s Race to the Grill will be a downriver race through the infamous Milk Run section ( aka family float section) of the Arkansas River. Participants will race in a time trials fashion down this class 2 section of whitewater and can race in rafts, kayaks or SUP boards. Race will end back at River Runner Grill for an afternoon of relaxation on the sandy beaches of the Arkansas River. Cold beverages and hot tacos will be waiting for you at the River Runners-Riverside Grill.
