Breckenridge is blooming with summertime events and activities. We have a round up of some great new and interesting things to do while your visiting this incredible Colorado mountain town:

National trends featured in Breck Arts District: Encaustic painting, ceramics transfers
In the midst of a major expansion, the Breckenridge Arts District calendar incorporates national trends such as encaustic painting and lithography transfers on ceramics. Also new, week-long children’s camps let little ones get creative with puppet-making, jewelry, sculpture and more. Kids show off their best work with art shows at the close of each session. The new offerings add to summer favorites such as plein air painting, textile courses featuring breezy summer fashion, woodcut printmaking and more.
New bar specializes in craft beer and whiskey: Après Handcrafted Libations
Sit back and enjoy a customized flight – Après offers some 30 brews on tap – or cruise the liquor cabinet for a selection of craft whiskeys, vodkas and more. Well spirits, just $5, are upper-shelf offerings from top Colorado distillers. Opened in January 2014, this downtown bar lets patrons order food from nearby restaurants, and they’re always open to suggestions for the drink menu.
New zip line and summer must-dos at the Breckenridge Fun Park
Breckenridge’s newest Fun Park activity features a two-stage zip line including a dual span of 392 feet and a second quad span of 1,095 feet. Soar more than 50 feet above the ski slopes at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. For the biggest thrills, combine the ride with a trip down the Gold Runner Coaster. And of course, be sure to check out mountain bike clinics, hiking tours, and the whole base area of big fun.
CampVRB: Train with elite runners at Breckenridge’s new high-altitude trail running camp
Vertical Runner is introducing a trail-focused camp that includes training runs with nationally-recognized athletes and speaker sessions covering form, survival skills, nutrition, yoga, goal setting and more. The three-night/four-day camps (July 21-25 and August 11-15) include lodging, meals, speaker sessions, entry to a local race, and more.
Bike-in/bike-out: Breckenridge Open Space & Trails tackles new projects for summer 2014
Be one of the first to ride Barney Flow (a downhill-only trail for almost any level of rider) or, later in summer, look for the completion of B-Line Trail as a more advanced alternative. Give back July 26-27, when a crew including Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado focuses on completing Upper Turk’s Trail – for mountain bikers, this means yet another way to link town-accessed trails into a major singletrack adventure. Thanks to USFS permission, Breck will see seven new trails over the next few summers.
Crowdsourced conductor search: Breckenridge Music Festival invites summer audience input
Following the announcement of Gerhardt Zimmermann’s retirement, the Breckenridge Music Festival selected three candidates to each conduct two concerts in summer 2014. Audience polls will be considered as the final selection for a new conductor is made. The BMF’s summer season also brings popular bands for the Blue River Series and intimate brunch gatherings during the Champagne Series.
The Lodge & Spa at Breckenridge to open on-site restaurant, remodel rooms
Work began this spring on full room remodels and the addition of a full-service restaurant at The Lodge & Spa at Breckenridge. Perched on a cliff with unparalleled views (think sunset dinner with a panoramic mountain backdrop), the property comprises 45 rooms (nine of which are suites), two free-standing houses, and two hot tubs in addition to a spa and fitness facility. The Lodge & Spa will remain open with uninterrupted service during renovations, which are expected to be complete by Aug. 3, 2014.
Get wild in Breckenridge: wilderness hikes, survival camps and wildflower photo walks
Week-long wilderness camps show kids (ages 7-12) everything from how to use a map and compass to Leave No Trace principles and backcountry cooking techniques. Choose from programs throughout June and July that focus on heritage, basic wilderness or girls only. For any age, weekly guided hikes (ranging from easy to difficult) explore flora, fauna and cultural history on Breckenridge’s town trail system. And during the height of the wildflower season (July 17 and 24), professional photographer Katie Girtman shares in-the-field tips on shooting wildflowers.
The Bivvi brings hostel to a whole new level
Inspired by hostels around the world, owners Worthy McCormick and Bond Camp renovated this sweet mountain lodge into The Bivvi. Six of the ten rooms are classic hotel rooms, while four are designed as a contemporary hostel. Cozy bunk beds (think high-end sleeper train) are custom-made from Norwegian Pine and provide each guest with a personal reading lantern and privacy curtain. Gather round the community fire pit (or in the hot tub) to share tales of big adventure.
