Winter Park Chateau – A Magical Escape in Grand County, Colorado

Winter Park Chateau offers Adventure, Relaxation and a whole lot of four season natural Fun in Winter Park, Colorado

by Caren Austin

Fall is here in Colorado, and I couldn’t be happier.  The changing of the aspens, the crisp, fresh air, and of course, pumpkin lattes made me want to take a leaf peeping trip ASAP.  We headed up to Winter Park CO for a few nights at the Winter Park Chateau for some mountain biking, foodie adventures, and a much needed vacation for relaxation.

The Winter Park Chateau is really something special.  Sitting at 8800 ft, it is Winter Park’s only luxury boutique hotel, so I couldn’t wait to go check it out.   Owner Matt Korte and manager Jordan Gonzalez really want you to feel at home when you stay there.  When we pulled up to the chateau, it reminded me of something you would see in Switzerland.  Its Victorian style stands out in a beautiful manner amongst all the new modern architecture in Winter Park.  The biggest surprise occurred when we entered the Winter Park Chateau.  The interior is lush, mountain modern, and most of all extremely welcoming.

I sat down with Matt for a few minutes to explore how this mid-nineties building came to be the highest rated hotel in Grand County.

Matt purchased the hotel in the 2021, when the hotel was used a mix of employee housing and ran as a hotel during the summer.   At 9000 sq feet, the hotel was renovated top to bottom.

Both owners are designers, so they knew that this building was worth saving.  The original concept of the hotel is modeled after a chalet that Matt and his family stayed at in Zermatt.

With only 10 rooms at The Winter Park Chateau, we truly got a very personalized experience.   Every room in the chateau is unique and is named after a Colorado wildlife animal, a cute added touch.  We stayed in the “Bear “room.  Massive in size with a huge soaking tub, this room deserved the name it was given.

The bar at The Chateau is private for guests only, and they can mix you up a fabulous old Fashioned or pour you a glass of wine or beer after a hard day of adventuring. The common areas have a beautiful fireplace and a place to truly relax and unwind.

The upstairs patio with a hot tub is a perfect place to take a dip after a hike, skiing, or mountain biking. If you are too tired to head out to dinner, there might be a warm bowl of soup of their famous chili with cornbread for you to enjoy.  If you are lucky, you can wake up to the smell of their famous cinnamon rolls.  Get them straight out of the oven, they are divine!

No need to leave your fur babies home, because a total bonus is that the Chateau is dog friendly.

The Winter Park bus picks up right in front of the hotel and being that the owner and manager get in over 75 ski days a year, they might even give you a lift to the mountain.

Ski season is just around the corner, and I cannot wait to come back to the Winter Park Chateau during the winter.  I would encourage you to book early for the winter season as they book up very quickly.  There is no other place I have found in Winter Park that gives you that home away from home feeling.

The personal touches added here are what separates them from the others. Run, don’t walk to the Winter Park Chateau, you will be so glad to make this magical place a part of your Colorado adventure.
