The Meeting 7 – Aspen
This is it, The Meeting! Seven years in the making, it is now THE kick-off event for the ski and snowboard industry. My friend at AspenSpin.com has attended every year and says “Only one word can adequately describe it—- SiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiCK”. What is the The Meeting you ask? The Meeting is the premier gathering of snowsports filmmakers, athletes, sponsors, media and fans. This event delivers a packed schedule of the top 2011-2012 ski and snowboard movies, music and fashion. What better way to get totally pumped for the season.
Everything kicks off tomorrow night with the NESPA Video Awards at the Wheeler Opera House (NEPSA…thats Aspen spelled backwards not the Nepalese research scholars). After the annual NEPSA Awards the D&E Fashion Show begins and will showcase all the newest trends for the 2011-2012 ski season at Belly Up Aspen. Burton, Smith, Oakley, Volcom, Analog, Bonfire, 686, Anon, Skullcandy, Special Blend, Dragon, Voleurz, Electric and more will be strutting their stuff.
Then a showing of Burton’s Standing Sideways will be followed up with a performance by Robotic Pirate Monkey. Burton’s Standing Sideways was filmed on location wherever good snow was found, and features the riding of professional snowboarders Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Müller, Jussi Oksanen, Jeremy Jones, Danny Davis, Mikey Rencz, Frederik Kalbermatten, Keegan Valaika, Mikkel Bang, Kazu Kokubo, Mark Sollors, Zak Hale, Mark McMorris, Ethan Deiss, Alex Andrews and Stephan Maurer. Robotic Pirate Monkey– a trio of DJs out of Boulder, Colo. who mix dubstep with the familiar sounds of pop, rock, hip-hop and soul music will keep you moving to the end of the night, well probably morning.
On Friday the showings begin 5pm at the Wheeler Opera House and then moves up the hill with The Silver Queen Gondola starting up at 9 pm. Guests will be taken to the Sundeck for That’s Fine by Voleurz and the anticipated showing of One For The Road by Teton Gravity Research. A bonfire and an after party at the top of Aspen Mountain rolls on into the night!
Saturday continues to bring top notch movie viewing at the Wheeler Opera House until the showings move over to Belly Up Aspen for showings of Videograss’ Retrospect and Pirate Movie Production’s Bottom Line followed up with a performance by Lance Herbstrong. Lance Herbstrong combines an electronic DJ set with a live band and is sure send the guests of The Meeting 7 off in one last dance party in celebration of the upcoming season.
Here’s a few video trailers to give you the shivers and get you pumped wether you can make The Meeting7 of not!
