Chris Miller joins Aspen One following 13 years at Ben & Jerry’s

Aspen One is pleased to announce that Chris Miller has been named Senior Vice President of Sustainability & Advocacy.

After 13 years at Ben & Jerry’s as Global Social Mission Director, overseeing the company’s sustainability and corporate activism initiatives Aspen One has named Chris Milller Senior Vice President of Sustainability & Advocacy. In his new role, Miller will strengthen and expand Aspen One’s industry-leading environmental and social impact work, which remains fundamental to the company’s mission and ethos, and will also work to broaden the aperture of the work further to advocate for solutions across a range issues impacting our communities and the world.

During his time at Ben & Jerry’s, Miller led the work to integrate the company’s values into its day-to-day operations and globally recognized brand. This included their sustainability strategy, values-led sourcing and supply chain work, and a unique and award-winning corporate activism model. Prior to joining Ben & Jerry’s, Chris led sustainability at Seventh Generation, the global leader in natural non-toxic household and personal care products. In addition to his for-profit experience, Chris directed Greenpeace USA’s national climate change campaign and served on the staff of Congressman Bernie Sanders.

Aspen One has a 78-year history as a values-based business with a deep commitment to sustainability, and a reputation for industry-leading corporate responsibility and environmental initiatives. The company has long used its influence to advocate for climate solutions; embrace inclusivity and understanding; fight for education, childcare, and healthcare in its mountain communities; and encourage civic engagement.

“I am honored to join the team at Aspen One—this is truly an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Miller. “The company’s values and commitment to sustainability and advocacy are embedded in its DNA, and the support and belief in the importance of this work is the cornerstone of Aspen One’s vibrant culture.”

Miller follows in the footsteps of Auden Schendler, SVP of Sustainability at Aspen One and renowned expert in climate advocacy, policy, activism, and clean energy development. Schendler’s retirement from Aspen One comes after a 26-year tenure at the company, where he shaped Aspen One’s unique approach to sustainability that emphasizes systemic change over tokenism. Along with Protect Our Winters (POW), where he served on the board for over a decade, Schendler helped mobilize the outdoor industry as a political force. Schendler’s relentless commitment to advocacy and scaling climate solutions have made both him and the company recognized leaders in affecting change, and that industry leadership has become core to the company’s ethos, which has now become Auden’s legacy.

“I have complete faith in Chris’s ability to move the ball further upfield than we ever have at Aspen One,” said Schendler. “Especially because he gets to work with talents like Michael Miracle, Hannah Berman, and Marlaina Murphy on our sustainability team. I’ve known Chris for a couple of decades and he’s exactly right for this job. And Aspen One—as a bigger company, with more influence in more places globally—is well positioned to play a meaningful role in climate, democracy, and human rights for decades to come.”

Congratulations to Aspen One and Chris Miller! Welcome Chris, to our great Colorado mountain town community.
