Copper Mountain’s Warrior Dash = Mud, Fire and Barbed Wire Fun!
For three years Copper Mountain has been host to daring mud warriors. Whether they are dressed in pink tutus, nordic god attire or gorilla suits these fierce competitors will take-on, tackle and conquer this 5K event at Copper Mountain Ski Resort on Saturday , August 18th. This year is bigger and badder then ever! 12 grueling obstacles (click the link, these are cool) set over more than three miles of extreme terrain will challenge all athletic abilities in this two day festival.
The festival begins on Friday, August 17 with a crazy pre-party. Skip the lines and get pre-registered for the next day’s battle starting at 4 p.m. Then head over to Burning Stones Plaza for one of the West’s best 80’s cover bands, That Eighties Band, kicking off at 5 p.m. and followed up by Dread Zeppelin, a reggae twist on your favorite Led Zeppelin songs, taking the stage at 8 p.m. Spend $30 dollars or more with Village at Copper merchants on Friday and Copper will treat you to a free round of Copper Village activities including go karts, mini golf, climbing wall and more.
Waves of up to 500 participants will start at 9am sharp Saturday morning! Fire, Mud and unique obstacles will literally bring you to your knees. What does one do to prep for this type of race? Here’s some advice:
- First, be sure to have sneakers on. Something you can run in. Don’t use those brand new sneaks that you bought yesterday but maybe and older pair. Don’t worry too much, you can pop them in the washer after the race and they will be a-ok. Sometimes two pairs are helpful… mud has a habit of sucking your shoes off. If you have two pairs you can keep on going
- Socks, choose a light wool sock. Again, no cotton!
- Sunscreen is essential even though the mud will act as a sunscreen later on.
- Wear capri length pants, something that covers your knees. This will help protect you since you will be crawling and climbing on them.
- Do Not wear Cotton! Be sure you have a nylon running top, something that will dry quickly and not hold moisture. Sleeveless is best
- Bring an old pair of sunglasses! They will get muddy so keep those sparkley Ray Ban Aviators at home
- Fingerless gloves are kinda nice to have to help protect your hands. Home Depot has good ones that you won’t have to worry about trashing.
- Bring a change of clothes and a trash bag to put all of your muddy clothes in!
- Baby wipes are nice to have after the race to get that mud off of your face.
After completing the intense physical challenge, participants can celebrate their accomplishments alongside friends and family with live music, food, beer garden watering hole and front row seats to some of the most grueling obstacles as other waves come in for the final stretch. The best part, Copper Mountain is offering a great lodging rate for those wishing to stay over, warm water is plus after a muddy day.
