Lake Dillon + Frisco = Boaters Paradise

The summer is heating up at 9075′ and Frisco, Colorado has every way imaginable to cool down. In celebration of the summer I headed down to the Frisco Bay Marina for a happy hour session by the bay at the Island Grill. I spent many a summer at the beach when I was young and this place always brings me back to those times.

The Marina’s facilities are better then ever now. Kayak Rentals, Pontoon Boats, Water Taxi’s, Powerboats and even the ability to SUP (Stand Up Paddle) are available at the Frisco Bay Marina. For those with kiddos there is a great playground and even a sandy “beach”. I just enjoyed walking out to the docks and listening to the clang of the sailboats as I started planning all the fun things I want to do this summer. When you live at altitude the summer is short, so you have to pack it in!

The Ten Mile River was sporting a fly fisherman casting his line,  the golden sunset made the picture all the more beautiful. I then remembered that the kayak park was up river and this weekend is the Ten Mile One Mile kayak competition!

Saturday night, June 9th kicks off with the best trick under the lights in the play hole. Sunday at 2pm is the Open Rodeo for Men and Woman and at 4pm the Ten Mile One Mile Creek Race takes off. All events are free and if you participate there will be awesome prizes for top places and a random bib drawings.

New for the 2012 season the Marina will be opening at 8am for early morning kayak rentals. Wake up on the water and enjoy a whole new way to get outdoors. “It is absolutely beautiful in the mornings and we wanted to give people more time to enjoy the water” stated Jenn Shimp, Marina Office Manager. The Island Grill is open seven days a week at 11:30am with a full menu and great drink specials too and is THE place for lunch and Happy Hour.

I am looking forward to some time by the bay and a ton of fun on the water!
