Weekend Weather & Avalanche Conditions
Wild weather last night as a severe thunderstorm blew thru with intense lightning, strange clouds, and soaking rain. A lightning strike on a tree near Frisco caught it on fire but the areas excellent fire fighting crews in the county made quick work of it. Looks like today will be the last chance of some thermally produced t-storms as a drying trend is slowly moving in from the SW. We may hit the 80’s over the weekend. The annual BBQ challenge will be glorious! Telluride Bluegrass Festivarians will revel in the sun and all of our towns will be green! Looks like this weather will hold into next week so we should be able to watch the grass grow to record heights!! I’m heading to CT this weekend and it looks like I’ll catch up with the tropical depression that hit Texas. Hope it is a short lived event as it moves eastward. Avi wise the drenched snowpack is reacting as several slides were reported from the Crested Butte area. You can only add so much water to the snowpack before it groans and says “that’s it!. Isolated events but another example that wet snow avalanches are still occurring out there. Streams are full and the water falls are impressive as water is draining out of the snowpack and spring melt occurs. Can almost kayak down Peak One! Lots of great turns above 12,000 ft are to come as the rains stops, water drains, and corn snow returns.
