On Saturday Arapahoe Basin announced that it will continue the weekend summer skiing season through the Fourth of July. This will be the first time in 14 years that the ski area has offered skiing on July 4. I remember fondly skiing Arapahoe Basin on the fourth in 1997, truly a novelty.
This years snow season has been, well, incredible and incredulous. We mountain folk are not surprised to see the snow this morning but all of our mouths were agape upon waking and the chatter on Facebook and Twitter is complete with photos and comments of displeasure and disdain. Alan Henceroth COO and Vice President of A-Basin posted “Last night’s storm of 6″ new snow should help. It is not unusual for us to get 1-2 feet of snow this time of year.”
So since we can’t beat the white fluffy stuff we might as well join it! A-Basin will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays June 24, 25, 26 and July 1, 2, 3 and finally close for the 2010-2011 season on Monday, July 4, 2011. Summer ski conditions exist with top to bottom skiing and riding on a midway base of 52″. Two lifts are operating serving 21 trails. The Treeline Terrain Park will be open with a variety of rails and features. Lake Reveal at mid-mountain is also open for pond skimming.
During the Summer Season, the ski area will open at 8:30 a.m. Two lifts will be running each day – Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Mountain Lift will close at 2:30 p.m. Lift tickets at A-Basin will be $39 for adults, $29 for youths (15-19) and $19 for children (6-14) during the Summer Season. No other discount or lift ticket offers will be accepted during this period. Season Passes valid at A-Basin during the regular season will continue to be valid during this Summer Season.
A $10 barbecue lunch special will be featured on the deck at Black Mountain Lodge, the A-Frame Café will be open for breakfast and the 6th Alley Bar will serve pizza and drinks. The rental shop will be open with ski, snowboard and clothing rentals and retail sales.
