The Season that Wasn’t – May Melancholy

As I watched the snow fall last night I couldn’t help but feel a little bit of melancholy. I broke out a bottle of wine, some cheese and crackers. Then, I just sat and watched the snow fall. I love those types of evenings.  We did not have many of them this year so I soaked it in and wondered, what will next year bring?

Here is a terrific video from Ryan Slabaugh.  A little riding mix from Aspen, early season. He apologies for the lack of gnar. But it helped me figure out this melancholy. It’s that moment of peace the snow brings, the silence of the world and having nothing but beautiful turns in front of me. I missed that. As Ryan said, “Tough winter”.  Yup.

  1. True, but, let’s face it, living in the mountains with even bad snow is better than not at all. 😉

    • I wouldn’t live anywhere else : ) Just an observation. Never got any of that blissful quiet that a powder day brings, it was really more of a realization. Time to ride! Hope you have had good travels!
