Carpoolers Unite! Mountain Rideshare Day

To encourage mountain travelers to carpool, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is hosting its second annual Mountain Rideshare Day on Saturday, Feb. 6, offering carpoolers exclusive discounts and deals at resorts and mountain businesses – Carpoolers unite! More than 30,000 vehicles can pass through the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels on a winter weekend day, with an average of 2.6 passengers in each one. However, if each vehicle filled their empty seats and instead had four occupants, 10,000 fewer cars would travel through the Tunnel each day. WinterBike 2016 at Copper Mountain

Now in its 5th year WinterBike is back January 23rd at Copper Mountain. It’s a family affair with Strider LittleBike and JuniorBike races capped off by the annual night time mountain bike race around the resort.   Kids ages 9 and under will gather at the start line at 4:30 p.m. to partake in the Strider LittleBike fun-ride through Center Village with prizes awarded for best flair and decked out bike. JuniorBike kicks off at 5 p.m., giving younger competitors ages 10-16 a taste of what winter biking is all about as they conquer the on-mountain course. The annual nonprofit Telluride Fire Festival made its debut in January 2015, an event inspired by Burning Man, the annual celebration of community, art and fire, that draws 70,000 people to the Nevada desert every Labor Day weekend. Sunlight Mountain Resort to Open Early for 2015/16

More than two feet of natural snow that fell in November has allowed Sunlight Mountain Resort to open early for its 49th season of skiing and snowboarding. Sunlight’s lifts will start turning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, one week ahead of its originally planned opening of Dec. 11. The ski area will be open through the weekend with nearly 300 skiable acres on an 18 inch base serviced by the Tercero and Segundo lifts.
