Eldora Mountain Resort: 50 Years of Skiing – BraveSkiMom.com

Eldora Mountain Resort: 50 Years of Skiing – BraveSkiMom.com

Brave Ski Mom is not only BRAVE! She is adventurous and loves to ski! We love reading about her and her family’s adventures. This one is a good one! I have only recently experienced Eldora Mountain Resort and loved it. Read on to discover more: BraveSkiMom.com – On New Year’s Eve day, our family celebrated in a sparkly sort of way. We’re not sparkly people: no glam ski wear, no iridescent goggles, no bling or bangles, so it wasn’t what we wore, but where we were. We were at Eldora Mountain Resort west of Boulder, the sun was shining through fast-moving clouds and it was lightly snowing. We skied in festive sparkles all day. Which was only fitting, because this is a festive birthday year at Eldora. On January 19, the mountain holds its official 50th birthday bash celebrating with games and giveaways at the base area, live music in the Corona Bar and the University of Colorado Alumni Day (including CU Buffs Ski Team racing and discounted lunch and lift packages for alums)....

SOS Outreach Departs for London 2012 Olympic Events

SOS Outreach Departs for London 2012 Olympic Events

As we awoke this morning to the first day of the London Olympic Games 20 Colorado kids and their fearless leader touched-down in England to begin an experience of a lifetime. SOS Outreach International and the Global Sports Development  Playmakers program (GSD) , an initiative that encourages youth to be leaders by taking action to improve themselves and their communities, made this trip a dream come true for a group of incredible youngsters- a week at the London 2012 Olympics. Excitement was high last night as the group prepared to depart DIA. I had a chance to chat with two of the kids who were chosen to represent SOS Outreach as leaders and ambassadors of Colorado’s towns. Kevin Rodriguez of Avon, Colorado is a first generation US Citizen who has been involved with SOS Outreach International for over 4 years. “The Olympics and this trip are inspiring me to do my best, to meet new people and gain new friendships with people from around the world”. He was very...

SOS Outreach Youth Travel to London for 2012 Olympics

SOS Outreach Youth Travel to London for 2012 Olympics

We are a day away from the official opening of the London 2012 Olympic Games. On the same date, Friday July 27, twenty at-risk Colorado youth from our mountain towns will experience the opportunity of a lifetime as they travel to the 2012 London Summer Olympics. These youth were given this opportunity by the Global Sports Development (GSD) Playmakers program, an initiative that encourages youth to be the leaders by taking action to improve themselves and their communities. These youth were selected by GSD as part of another nonprofit called SOS Outreach. SOS Outreach is a youth development non-profit based in Colorado that encourages underserved youth to get involved in their communities through leadership and outdoor sports programs. Many of the students served by SOS come from low-income families and minority backgrounds, and would not otherwise have the opportunity to travel and experience an international event like the Olympics. The trip will include meeting U.S. Olympic athletes, attending cultural events, sight-seeing and of course, watching the games. It is the...

SOS Outreach Youth Furthering their Leadership Skills at the London Olympics

SOS Outreach Youth Furthering their Leadership Skills at the London Olympics

Once again I am blown away by SOS Outreach. This organization has blossomed since I moved to Colorado’s mountains in 1990 and heard of their mission in 1993. Today the organization has grown from getting kids out on the mountain into a full blown youth development organization exposing kids to the world! This summer twenty SOS Outreach (SOS) participants are experiencing an opportunity of a lifetime as they travel to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The students will begin their adventure with a trip to the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs on May 12 to tour the facilities and get a glimpse of the premier athleticism and commitment to excellence they will be experiencing at the Olympics. These youth have been given this opportunity by the Global Sports Development (GSD) Playmakers program, an initiative that encourages today’s youth to be the leaders of tomorrow by taking action to improve themselves and their communities. Many of the students served by SOS come from low-income families and minority backgrounds, and...
