Travel Tips for a Healthy Vacation

Travel Tips for a Healthy Vacation

There are just a few sweet weeks of summer left. Hard to believe, right? With the waning days of summer upon us, many Summit County and Colorado Mountain Town residents are trying to get their vacations in before Labor Day. Whether you’re taking a road trip across the country or flying somewhere exotic, staying healthy will allow you to enjoy the journey from beginning to end. Keep these tips in mind: Pack medications properly. Refill all your medicines before you leave. Bring a list of your prescriptions in case you misplace them or need to receive medical attention. Pack any prescription medications in carry-on luggage, so you have them if checked bags get lost. Take enough medicine to last the duration of your trip, plus an extra week’s worth. If you have room, pack a first-aid kit in your luggage. Make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date. At least four to six weeks before an international trip, ask your primary care physician if you are current on all vaccines. Influenza and...

Natural Family Water Parks in Colorado Mountain Towns

Natural Family Water Parks in Colorado Mountain Towns

Natural Family Water Parks in our Colorado Mountain Towns are a great way to spend the day, you just need to know where to look. Is there anything better than splashing around and cooling down with your kids  on a hot day? Summertime is when you get to grab the sprinkler and make mad dashes around the lawn while you cool off getting wet. When you’re on the go there are a bunch of great places to play here in our Colorado mountain towns.   STEAMBOAT RESORT – Right at the mountain’s base area, outside the Sheraton Steamboat Resort, is a lovely stream cascading down big rock features. This safe area provides a fun place to relax and play, complete with beach chairs and sand.   FRISCO BAY MARINA – We love the Marina’s sandy beach area where kids love to wade and build sand castles. A killer park is a quick walk away and a grass area is perfect to lay your towel down. OURAY – The Ouray...

Touch A Truck Is Telluride Family Fun

This year’s Touch-A-Truck takes place Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Carhenge parking lot at the base of Chair 7 in Telluride. The event is open to the public, and admission is $5 per adult and child. Other activities include a kids area with face painting, tattoos, and live music. “We are excited about our tenth annual Touch-A-Truck event. Last year we raised $12,000 with all of the proceeds going towards scholarships, curriculum materials, and new playground equipment. This year we are raising money for enrichment activities, learning tools, and scholarships for both our infant/toddler program and preschool,” explained Mountain Munchkins Director...

Mountain Parents: Remember 5-2-1-0 this summer

Mountain Parents: Remember 5-2-1-0 this summer

School’s out for summer! That’s the excited refrain many mountain kids are singing right now. No more homework, no waking up early; it’s all about fun. But what about exercise?  Mountain Parents: Remember 5-2-1-0 this summer. During the school year, most children have hours in the school day dedicated to PE or time on the playground. Fewer hours of organized physical activity are available in the summer months, however, which places many children at risk for gaining weight. We’ve gotten used to referring to Colorado as one of – if not the – healthiest state in the country. And while that may be true for Colorado adults, our kids are headed in the wrong direction. According to the Colorado Children’s Campaign 2016 Kids Count report, 27 percent of Colorado kids ages 2 to 14 were overweight or obese between 2010 and 2014. That’s why it’s important to remember a simple phrase to help keep children healthy and active while they play this summer – 5-2-1-0. 5 Servings of Fruits and...
