Touch A Truck Is Telluride Family Fun

Get your kids to Telluride for the tenth annual Touch-A-Truck, a kid-centric fundraising event in which children can touch, climb, explore and sit in the driver’s seat of a variety of vehicles: service vehicles, work equipment, fire trucks, and police cars. Open to the public and organized by Munchkins parents, all proceeds raised will go towards enrichment activities, learning tools and scholarships. This year’s Touch-A-Truck takes place Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Carhenge parking lot at the base of Chair 7 in Telluride. The event is open to the public, and admission is $5 per adult and child. Other activities include a kids area with face painting, tattoos, and live music. “We are excited about our tenth annual Touch-A-Truck event. Last year we raised $12,000 with all of the proceeds going towards scholarships, curriculum materials, and new playground equipment. This year we are raising money for enrichment activities, learning tools, and scholarships for both our infant/toddler program and preschool,” explained Mountain Munchkins Director...

Mountain Parents: Remember 5-2-1-0 this summer

Mountain Parents: Remember 5-2-1-0 this summer

School’s out for summer! That’s the excited refrain many mountain kids are singing right now. No more homework, no waking up early; it’s all about fun. But what about exercise?  Mountain Parents: Remember 5-2-1-0 this summer. During the school year, most children have hours in the school day dedicated to PE or time on the playground. Fewer hours of organized physical activity are available in the summer months, however, which places many children at risk for gaining weight. We’ve gotten used to referring to Colorado as one of – if not the – healthiest state in the country. And while that may be true for Colorado adults, our kids are headed in the wrong direction. According to the Colorado Children’s Campaign 2016 Kids Count report, 27 percent of Colorado kids ages 2 to 14 were overweight or obese between 2010 and 2014. That’s why it’s important to remember a simple phrase to help keep children healthy and active while they play this summer – 5-2-1-0. 5 Servings of Fruits and...

UB.U

UB.U

Mindfulness. Meditation. Mental Health. These are big buzz words being heard in the media lately and if there is anything good the media can produce it is bringing light to these ideas in a positive way. There is a group in the Vail Valley who are passionate about bringing the concept of Mindfulness to the classroom and have come together, forming UB.U, to bring these concepts to life as tools of growth for the children of the Eagle County school system. “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” ~Viktor Frankel Three women, Rachel DeLong, Emily McCormack, Anne-Marie Desmond were and are passionate about addressing the needs of children in their community. They have seen a tremendous need to address social emotional wellness, resilience and character development in schools. Each have experienced firsthand; the pressures kids face from peers, parents, teachers and even of themselves. In school, this translates to anxiety, aggressive behavior, bullying and even mental...
